Recommendations

All dangerous goods must comply with ICAO/IATA regulations for the air transport of dangerous goods. Below are the specific requirements:

  • United Nations (UN) Packaging: The markings must be printed or directly stamped on the packaging by the manufacturer. Markings added in any other way will not be accepted.
  • Limited Quantity Packaging: Must comply with the provisions established in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, specifically in paragraphs and subparagraphs 2.7.5 and 2.7.6.
  • Markings and Labels: The required markings according to IATA 7.1.4, as well as hazard and handling labels, must be applied to the sides of packages containing dangerous goods. This requirement does not apply to the inscription of the shipper’s and consignee’s name and address.
  • Package Marking: Each package must be durably and legibly marked on the outside in accordance with Section 7, subparagraph 7.1.3.2 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
  • Types of Labels: Hazard and handling labels may be requested either together or separately, depending on the type of goods being transported.

Laboratory materials

Some types of cargo hide the presence of dangerous products due to their nomenclature and/or shape. The risk may not be explicit in the shipment of samples for tests or diagnoses originating from laboratories, clinics and hospitals, whether for humans or animals.

Biological materials are potentially dangerous and must be packaged so that leaks do not occur and resist the regular conditions found in air transportation (impact, temperature changes, pressure and other conditions).

For each type of material there is a suitable type of packaging and all the packages determined in the regulation include triple conditioning.

To obtain approval for transportation, the shipment must:

  • Present in advance a document in the form of a Declaration, that states that the product is completely in accordance with the description and limitations of the products related to UN3373, type B biological products;
  • This document must present the duly identified signature of a person with the required qualification in accordance with current regulations: the person must be legally authorized and/or trained and certified by the parameters of the IATA regulations and/or one of the competent bodies.
  • This document must be delivered in duplicate, at a minimum, and preferably using letterhead that identifies the shipper, manufacturer and/or distributor.
